Our friends at Wallace in Finland have been cooking up something big… well, actually something smaller!
The new Wallace 1200D Diesel Cooker has been completely redesigned to take up less bench space, heat up faster and deliver even better performance for RV and motorhome owners.
For years, diesel cookers have had a reputation for being a little bulky and slow to start. Wallace set out to change that—and they’ve succeeded.
What’s New?
Smaller Footprint: The new 1200 D occupies significantly less bench space, making it easier to install in both portrait and landscape orientations. This gives RV manufacturers and owners greater flexibility when designing compact kitchens where every centimetre counts.
Faster Heating: An all-new burner design and upgraded control system have dramatically improved start-up times and cooking performance.
Compared to the previous model:
- Boils 1 litre of water from a cold start in approximately 10 minutes (previously around 15 minutes).
- If the cooker is already running, the same litre of water can be boiled in around 5 minutes.
The result is a diesel cooker that’s far more practical for everyday cooking.
Designed for Australian Conditions
Dieselheat has also worked closely with Wallace to help optimise the cooker’s cooling system for Australian conditions.
One of the key challenges was ensuring adequate cooling while minimising the amount of dust drawn into the RV—an important consideration for anyone who knows the dust in Australia’s outback roads.
Diesel or Induction?
There’s no doubt that induction cooktops have become increasingly popular in modern RVs. However, it’s important to look at the complete system.
While induction cooking is convenient, it also requires a substantial battery and inverter system to deliver the necessary power. Once the additional battery capacity, charging equipment and associated weight are taken into account, a diesel cooker often remains the lighter, simpler and more cost-effective solution.
For travellers who value low weight and efficient use of space, a diesel cooker continues to be an excellent choice.
