For heating workshops we recommend our 2.2kW or 4KW portable heaters, however it’s important to be aware if the workshop is not sealed and insulated the heat from the heater will dissipate very quickly and the space is not likely to warm up. For non insulated or very open workshops it’s often better to use a radiant style heater.
For insulated and well-sealed workshops, as well as off-grid homes and tiny homes, we generally recommend 2.2kW, 4kW, 5kW, or 6kW air heaters from the Eberspächer or Belief range. These can be installed externally on a wall, under the floor, or internally (similar to a caravan installation), with the exhaust routed outside.
For these types of applications, hydronic combined hot water and air heating systems are also an option. Our DH E-Solar systems allow hot water to be heated using excess solar power, with a diesel furnace providing boosting when required and supplying hydronic air heating. This can be an excellent solution, as for much of the year your hot water can be heated primarily by solar energy.
The amount of heating power required to warm a space can vary significantly depending on its size, level of insulation, window area, air tightness, and location. For this reason, we recommend speaking with us about the space you are trying to heat so we can use our experience to recommend an appropriately sized heater.
