Are diesel heaters (heaters, cookers and hot water) smelly is a common question, particularly for people who haven’t used one before.
All diesel heaters (heaters, cookers and hot water), make a small amount of smell and smoke as they ignite and warm up. This smell is carried outside via the system exhaust pipe so will not be noticeable inside unless there are open windows or vents close to the exhaust.
Once the system has warmed up and is running normally—typically within 30 seconds to one minute—diesel heaters produce no noticeable smell, even at the exhaust outlet.
So, as long as the unit is properly installed with the correct exhaust system and is operating properly there is no chance of any diesel smell inside.
